If you are looking for a great breakfast, lunch, brunch restaurant on the Northshore, Abita Cafe and Abita Roasting Co. have you covered in Abita Springs, Covington, and Madisonville. You can find the usual suspects on the menu, but you’ll discover some really great Southern dishes as well. Cajun Praline Chicken and Waffles can’t be found just anywhere. For breakfast, I recommend the Eggs Acadiana or the Cajun Country Breakfast (that comes with grits, sweet cornbread cake, and a biscuit and gravy…y’all…). For brunch, check out the Nola BBQ shrimp & cheese grits. If you like your food spicy, try the Flambeaux omelet. For a lunchtime meal, they offer burgers, tacos and wraps, paninis, sandwiches and po’boys, and of course, salads. The wildberry-pecan salad is a favorite of mine. The fried green tomato & avocado BLT is a favorite as well.
The Abita Cafe in Abita Springs is the O.G. of the trio and you might just catch sight of Omelet, the resident rooster mascot, during your visit.

If you’re in Downtown Covington and feeling hangry, you can dine in or drive through their Abita Roasting Co. location. It’s a spacious, modern building with a coffee bar and patio seating available. This was the second built of the three locations. It’s really convenient when you’re on an all-day antiquing marathon and in need of a tasty, power-up meal.
They have a nice little selection of merch, too. I really like the heavy-set, ceramic mugs. And there’s a variety of packaged coffee if you want to take some home with you.
If I had to choose a favorite of the tree locations, I’d be hard-pressed, but I’d have to say Abita Roasting Co. in Madisonville. It’s in a beautifully restored home with views of the Tchefuncte River. Having a nice lunch and sipping an iced, green tea (ok, ok…sweet tea) while sitting on the porch and watching the boats go by is a pretty nice way to pass the time.
If you have a favorite location, let me know in the comments.
