Tour the Abita Brewery

on

I will admit that I’m not much of a drinker, and I am definitely not a beer expert. Occasionally, I like to sample different kinds of beer to see if I find a new favorite. The Abita Brewery tour is a great opportunity to do that. You can sample their popular and seasonal brews on tap, learn about the beer-making process, and see where the libations are concocted. There is something for everyone: sodas, cocktails, hard lemonade, hard sweet tea, and limited edition, seasonal, and year-round brews. With names like, Mardi Gras Bock, Pecan Ale, and Strawgator (a fusion of their Strawberry Lager and Andygator brew), you know you’ll be experiencing something that is uniquely Louisianian. For those who are just passing through the Pelican State, you’ll want to try The Boot-a Louisiana exclusive. If you know someone who likes beer, this is a great place to take them on a Saturday. Day date?

You can get directions, join the Brew Krewe, see their tour schedules and merch, and read a full list of their brews (with thorough descriptions) on their website here. My recommendation is Purple Haze, but the Abita Root Beer is still my favorite. I think I’ll try the Barney, Tiki Rum Punch, Hard Sweet Tea, or the King Cake Soda next.

Visit their website for more information on what is included in the different types of tours and to make a reservation. And if you’re here in the Fall, check out Abita Fall Fest. (Check their website for any date/time changes.)
You must be 21 to drink and wear closed-toed shoes to tour the brewery. Don’t forget to check out the shop area for some unique gifts and maybe a growler or six-pack to take home.

I really enjoyed the bottlecap art. I believe you can see more from this artist on Instagram @southerncapworks.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat after the tour, check out the Abita Brew Pub just down the road in Abita Springs. This was the original site of the brewery and now serves delicious food like Boudin egg rolls, gumbo, jambalaya, pecan-crusted catfish, and many types of burgers and sandwiches. Check out the full menu on their website here.
